Today was Rep. Niki Tsongas’ 9th annual “River Day” where she recognizes the importance of the rivers that flow through her district (Assabet, Sudbury, Concord, Merrimack, to name a few).  Over the years we’ve participated in the event in some way and this year OARS asked me to photograph the event for them.

A special guest was part of this year’s event.  Secretary of the Interior Sally Jewell was invited to participate in the River Day event and she paddled up to Egg Rock and then down the Concord River to the Old North Bridge for a series of speeches.

A group of 4th graders from Lawrence received their national park pass as part of the fantastic “Every Kid in a Park” program. They also got a bit of a history lesson from the Minuteman volunteers, including a musket firing. After the dignitaries had moved on, OARS sponsored a Water Wise Workshop for these future river stewards at the Old Manse.   (I have a separate article for those pictures.)

Technical: This was my first outing with the new (and expensive) Fujifilm XF 50-140 f/2.8 and, as anticipated, it is an awesome, tack-sharp lens.   I’m so looking forward to putting it through some low-light challenges tomorrow night at Acme Theater.   Telephoto shots were with the X-T1 and the 50-140 lens.  Anything wide-angle-ish was likely taken with the Fuji XS100.  Processed with Lightroom CC 2015.  Some have minor exposure tweaks.
